Gossip Girl

Wow...okay...I will officially start this off by calling my boyfriend Sean a hero. I dragged him to the Tribeca Grand Hotel for a screening of the 80s flashback episode of Gossip Girl last night. I watched the first season because my friend Meredith was the assistant stylist and a few friends were extras. Plus my friend Abigail's clothing line, Lorick was featured as Blair's mom's designs. I don't watch it anymore. I gave up. Something about breathlessly watching the dramas of Manhattan teenagers unfold makes me feel dirty. I understand the appeal and yeah, yeah Chuck Bass is a rad character. You know, before they were famous, literally weeks before the first episode aired, I saw Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick at the Cast's fashion show at the St Mark's Church. They were ahead of me in the bathroom line. I recognized them because Meredith, my friend who worked on the show, had shown us the pilot episode. She had warned us that this show was guaranteed to be huge and we enjoyed the camp. Plus the kids were a lot naughtier in the pilot, smoking weed on the street and doing all sorts of fun illegal kid things before the network stepped in and put on the brakes.

Anyway, so I recognized them. They were both totally short but good-looking enough. No one knew who they were yet so no girls were screaming or swooning. They were guests of the show's stylists and just looked sorta lost. Anyway, back to the bathroom line. Now I can't verify a damn thing and I know this ain't a gossip blog, but seriously. One of the two went in first and spent forever in there. When he finally came out he passed something via handshake to the other and then other dude spent forever in the bathroom. I was annoyed but also proud of these little future stars, doing what appeared to most likely be blow in the bathroom of a church at the onset of fashion week. It actually made me want to watch the show before I got overwhelmed with trying to keep up.

So last night we went to the screening. Sean had never seen a single episode and I have no idea what's going on this season apart from the teasers I see when I watch Top Model on the CW. I tried to explain to him what was going on but quickly gave up. Thankfully his penis didn't fall off and he emerged from the experience still a man. And a good sport at that. I owe him like 10 noise shows for this one.

I didn't take pictures because there was some fancy society blog already doing so. They did a very different write up of the event. But hey, they sure as hell love Abigail!

What a weekend

I went to Provincetown.

I went to a party.

This man was the host:

He was wearing this shirt:

Before the party we went out here:

I was hanging out with this guy:

I'll spare you the shot of me in my bikini and instead show you this:

There was also a tiki bar involved.

I'd never done the east coast weekender before, it's a very strange scene. The streets were packed, riding our bikes down Commercial felt like a third world country, all foot traffic, no room for cars, bikes weaving in between pedestrians, near collisions happening constantly. The vacationers consisted primarily of athletically-built immaculately-groomed men. Nearly every snipped of conversation we heard as we rode out to the break water was pure gold (although no one really wants to hear the words, "speaking of cows..." while riding their bike past a gaggle of gays.)

I had a blast though. Provincetown seemed like the friendliest place in America. Seriously, I had multiple strangers come up to me and wish me a good summer, compliment my ability to run in heels, make fun of my bike riding ability (but in a pleasant manner) and one guy even made fun of a Belgian dressed like Pee Wee Herman to me.

Also of note in Ptown, a youngish mom giving her daughter Pop Rocks for the first time. Daughter reactions violently, spitting them out and rubbing her tongue. Mom points and doubles over laughing still holding the Blue Razz package in her hand.

Also of note, "My boss came to work at the motorcycle shop and told me he fucked George Michael last night."

Also someone had a story about their friend making out with Taylor Dayne. Yes, apparently Taylor Dayne enjoys getting felt up by young gays at parties on boats. The kid had no idea who it was he'd been making out with but it was the talk of Ptown according to the storyteller. The next morning the kid's mother whapped him on the head and asked, "What the hell is wrong with you? You madeout with Taylor Dayne. Do you have any idea how old that woman is?"

Amazing.

P.S. She's 46.

Guilty pleasures of the neo-rave...

This is Joey Casio

We stayed at Joey Casio's house in Olympia, Washington last summer. He was one of the nicest most mellow-mannered folk we stayed with all tour.

The show was at a gay bar called Jakes. No one was there except for the other bands, a few of Joey's local buds, and a drunken frat dude who interrupted Eyes and Ears set and started screaming for them to play Nirvana covers. Myke Howard actually complied and the dude got on stage and sang to Territorial Pissing (if memory serves me correctly. Actually, god, listening to them now I forgot how great Eyes and Ears were.

(Reading back over this I realized this post is totally unrelated within itself...so sorry, stream of consciousness takeover in 5....4...3..2.1)

Listening to all the music makes me super reminiscent of the months I spent in Columbia, MO directly after graduating high school and even moreso of my friend Nathan who in 2001 started a keyboard beats punk band called Bin Laden Youth aka about seven years before Dash Snow ever "thought" of it...sorry Dash, you were beaten out by a 17 year old gay kid in Missouri. Nathan was the best kid ever. I lived with him when he was 15 and I was 18 in the top floor of an old house split into three separate apartments. The middle floor was vacant and in the basement there lived an ultra punk rock couple who had lived in the garage of my previous punk house. The girl was about 16 and got knocked up when she lived in the basement apartment. She started showing around the time a group of sorority girls rented out the house next door for their summer party pad. I remember when they first moved in they invited us to a party at their house. We rolled in seven deep with a pregnant pink haired teenager in a wifebeater, no bra, and a mini skirt, no panties and her mohawked ferret-faced 20-something year old boyfriend. Ahh, Samantha and Eric, I think those were their names. Wonder what happened to them. We stole half the beer from their refrigerator and smuggled it back to our house, comandeered their stereo and frightened everyone away from us until, 3 stolen bottles of Jack Daniels later we left for fear of getting our asses kicked. Needless to say, we weren't invited back.

I lived in the attic in this house and Nathan lived below me. He was a high school dropout with a wire-framed glasses and fire engine red rat tail. It was the perfect "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" response. Confuse the rednecks by adopting their hairdos. This was 2000, several years before the mullet took over Williamsburg. What this kid was doing eight years ago is beyond next level today. He was my best gay ever. We'd cuddle and I teased him for listening to Ani DiFranco. We talked about crushes and he pretended not to notice (or maybe didn't actually notice, I'm actually pretty sure he didn't notice because he was so crushed out on the third person involved in our conversation) when I puked on myself (just a little) mid-sentence on our porch. I started getting so drunk that I couldn't even make it down the stairs to the bathroom and started waking up and pissing in the leftover Fosters cans that were in my room still from it's previous incarnation as party pad. Before I took the attic there had been a party at the house every Friday for a month or two and since there was no living room, all partying took place in the attic or on the porch. Nathan wasn't my first gay, but he was my first best gay. I haven't spoken to him in years but this music makes me miss him.

Anyway, what a diversion. Not that this music is gay, it just makes me think of Nathan Stebbing and his Lisa Frank fantasyworld.

Also playing that show was Twin Crystals who had such a crazed and frenetic energy I all but gave up taking pictures, aside from these right as the singer threw his keyboard and ended up bleeding.

I now have a Bin Laden Youth song in my head, "Osama, where are, you're like the father I never had. Why don't you come out of hiding and make yourself a real dad" or something like that. I'll fall asleep with images of Nathan in his "Pen 15 Club" jean jacket and his denim cutoffs dancing around in my head.

AGAP

aka As Gay As Possible.

Yeah...I watched the premiere of "Step It Up and Dance" last night. What of it?

But seriously, it was by far the most quotable tv show I've seen in years.

"Did I look like a fag onstage?" - contestant

"Hip-hop's not my strongpoint." - Tovah, the black ballerina
"But you're black!" - Mel B, Spice Girl/Guest Judge

"He's a performer. I feel like he could sell me a sneaker full of poop." - Judge

What the hell. I like how the try and pass off Elizabeth Berkley as a serious gay icon. Yeah, Showgirls was campy and hilarious but I am sorry, if anyone is the icon of filth in that movie it was totally Gina Gershon. Still, I appreciated it immensely when one of the contestants (he's so 6th ave strip West Village) did an impression of her infamous "I'm So Excited" scene in Saved by the Bell.

"He has been training in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, and jazz funk for over ten years and has performed on stage with Perez Hilton and Grammy-nominated R&B singer, Shanice."

This is the guy who apparently could sell a sneaker full of poop and who did the Jesse Spano reference. Is performing onstage with that fat blob of goo Perez Hilton something a trained dancer should brag about?

"Miguel is an accomplished choreographer with credits including MTV's Rob & Big, Robin Anton's Pussy Cat Dolls in Las Vegas, and assisting for the sold-out Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds Tour. Miguel describes his point of view as unapologetic, forward, and a little offbeat. Miguel can also play the saxaphone and is an amazing whistler."

Rob and Big? What the fuck did he do on Rob and Big and how did I miss that? I swear to god I've seen this dude before. Probably at the cock or at one of Sophia Lamar's parties, but I definity can't shake it.

It's almost as strong as the weird "alterna" girl from the first Pussycat Dolls reality show. She looked so damn familiar and then I realized there was a photo of her in my senior thesis. What the FUCK?
