Holy crap, we've been blogged

Vice caught Sean and I last night.

Apparently I am well-dressed and my boyfriend is scary. Thanks Vice. Urgh...?

P.S. The name Skin Drink was a joke that made it's way to a flyer. That is not going to be their name...thank god.

Sigh...

Who loves Contempo Casuals? I do!

Okay, so I would never wear this but I just have to point out it's amazing WTFness...you've got six hours ladies...

Some more Escada ridiculousness from Claire Incorruptible

The next two come from Indie Cult Vintage and both auctions are up and way too expensive for my nonexistent budget

lace[1]
50's lace bustier teddy romper with sequin straps in measurements almost mine? Yes please!

Get your THOR on...or your MANOWAR on...I have something similarly awesome that I wore on Halloween that's midnight blue and Vintage Dior

Warrior Priestess

Sighs all around. Guess no one probably wants to hire an Ebay personal shopper during the economic crisis, huh? God I need a job.

Francesca had an opening

I didn't want to take pictures of her pictures and it was so packed I couldn't take photos of much and Francesca was surrounded so I didn't get any photos of the beautiful photographer. But her work is up at the Daniel Cooney gallery at 511 W 25th Street Suite 506 until April 18. Take a look! And her Mars Bar book is amazing.

Chuck couldn't make it, he miss his flight in from LA so Ryan and Brendan kept him company. Representing.

DSCN6245
Bridgette said hello too.

DSCN6246
Hello birth control boobs! I almost have clevage.

Chuck and Eric
I took a picture of Chuck from that same era. Somehow it just doesn't have the grace that Francesca's portrait does. Oh wait, that's because she's super talented (and because bitchpants aka the teenage male model who never left the Cast Studio after their fashion show casting and who once told me he was hung like a stallion...eeew...isn't hogging the shot.)

Best Juxtaposition of all time

Before our fancy Del Posto date we went to Best Buy

Steve Irwin, Hitler, and Criss Angel all in a row.

Someone write a joke. Thanks.

Pampered not in the diaper way

I've been in a semi-hallucinatory state the past few days. Welcome to day 3 of my detox water/juice fast. I do not recommend doing this unless you have no job or at least several days off in a row. Last night I found myself watching the Food Porn episode of No Reservations online and feeling slightly dizzy. I also applied for a job in deli prep kitchen at the Bowery Whole Foods. Umm...okay. I am supposed to ease back into food with fresh fruits and veggies but all I want are bbq wings a chili cheese fries.

Why am I doing this detox fast? Because I have been going out and eating the most delicious food on the planet night after night. Whether it is Del Posto for an anniversary dinner (7 course tasting menu, most of it out of this world, some not so amazing) or Fatty Crab to celebrate my boyfriend getting paid (so...much...pork belly) or even regular brunch at the standby that is Enids (with the biggest pancake portion I have ever seen...almond and apricot, they were so good) I've been indulgent beyond belief and it has caught up with me. On Saturday afternoon I will land in Barbados. Bikini season starts early for me this year. So I've gained 7 pounds of relationship/birth control weight. I can handle that, most of it went to my tits anyway, but for the first time in my life I've been gorging on nothing but meat and starches and I feel sluggish as hell.

So I detox to try to get all the gnarly out of my system (I started drinking small amounts of caffiene as well, that didn't help) and hopefully fit back into my impossibly small Acne Needles (did they ever really fit?) in the process. I have to stay away from Glen's Food Porn Tumblr in preparation for my island trip.

Still participating in the joys of obsession, here is a glimpse into my life in food last week.

Dinner @ Del Posto: We ordered the Grand Tasting Alla New Yorkese which thankfully is up on their website

Stuffed Pepper, Mozzarella di Buffala, Spicy Broccoli Rabe

Tuna SUSCI with Insalata Tricolore

Beef ROSSINI

TIRAMISU
An Impossibly Small Taste

CANNOLI with Blood Orange and Pistachio
Brooklyn Style, Made from a Recipe of Lidia's

Their site has more beautiful pictures than I even bothered. In fact I was too busy savoring to take any photos til the end. But goddamn that cannoli was magical.

DSCN6249

The very next night we went the the Fatty Crab where we had two magical dishes and two so-so ones. The magic all came in the form of pork. Steam pork buns which sound innocuous but were completely delicious and the crispy pork and watermelon salad which...fuck...I can't even explain. So amazing. I wouldn't reccomend the skate or the chicken hot pot. The former just wasn't that good and the latter, while soothing, wasn't terribly special.

There was also pancakes, White Castle (although, what is a chicken ring sandwich with no honey mustard?), Yola's enchiladas, and an extravagent spread at Village Yokocho (the upstairs joint on Stuyvesant street right next to Sunrise Mart) including yakitori, taro stew, spinach with sesame sauce, steamed chinese broccoli, yellowtail collar (so rich I almost fell asleep after eating), and mixed pickles.

You see? I need a break!

Saturdays are the best days

Why go out to dinner and endure the stressed masses when you can have a luxurious leisurely Saturday at home? Sleeping, eating, fucking...what else does someone need out of a holiday centered around coupledom?

DSCN6130
He bought me roses from a Polish florist down the street in Greenpoint. Much to his dismay they were sprayed with glitter. It was hilarious.

DSCN6129
I made soup for the first time in my life. It was butternut squash/apple and it was garnished with bacon and charred brussel sprout leaves.

DSCN6119
I had to restrain myself from eating the entire bowl of garnish minus the soup. Mmmm...

DSCN6140
Sean made chicken in a saffron white wine cream sauce and broccoli rabe with roasted garlic and anchovies. Soooooo good. I seriously this was the best recipe for broccoli rabe I've ever had. Perfection. My favorite thing of the night.

I made black sesame panna cotta with a soy caramel sauce and whole wheat cacao nib sables from Alice Medrich's recipe. The cookies were perfect, some of the best I've ever made. And the panna cotta wasn't pretty for a picture but shocking easy. I had to use bowls because we didn't have the proper size dish/ramekins so they were a little wide and flat and the caramel sauce proved to be unnecessary and overly sweet so next time I'll leave it out.

DSCN6114

After a delicious and filling dinner we rounded out the night by playing Super Mario World and listening to Steely Dan. You gotta love it.

Here are the recipes from the night. Everything ruled. I don't have Sean's recipe for the chicken but I've got everything else.

Butternut Squash and Apple Soup with Bacon
Originally from Gourmet but throughly changed by Me!

4 slices bacon
3 shallots, minced
1 large garlic clove, minced
Ancho chili powder to taste
1 1/4 pounds butternut squash, seeded, peeled, and cut into 1-inch pieces (about 3 cups)
1 medium Granny Smith or other tart apple
2 cups low-salt chicken broth
1/2 cup water plus additional for thinning soup
2 T maple syrup
Heavy cream to taste
4 brussel sprouts, trimmed and cored then peeled leaving individual leaves

1. In a skillet cook 2 strips bacon until crisp and drain, reserving 1 1/2 tablespoons fat. Crumble bacon.

2. In a heavy saucepan cook shallot and garlic with salt, pepper, and chili powder to taste in reserved fat over moderate heat, stirring, until softened.

3. Add squash, apple, peeled and chopped, broth, and 1/2 cup water. Simmer mixture, covered, until squash is very tender, about 15 minutes.

4. In a blender purée mixture in batches, transferring as puréed to a clean saucepan, and add enough additional water to thin soup to desired consistency.

5. Whisk in heavy cream, salt and pepper, and maple syrup to taste and heat soup over moderately low heat until hot (do not boil).

6. Cook remaining bacon in pan. Remove bacon and cook brussel sprouts until charred and almost blackened on medium-high heat in remaining bacon fat.

7. Serve soup topped with crumbled bacon and charred brussel sprout leaves

Broccoli Rabe with roasted garlic
From Mario Batali's The Babbo Cookbook

Serves 4 as a side dish (I think it's more like 2)

1 head of Garlic
2 tbsp plus 1/4 cup of extra virgin Olive Oil
Kosher Salt and freshly Ground Pepper
3 salt packed Anchovy Fillets, rinsed and drained
Pinch of Red Pepper Flakes

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

2. Remove the first few papery layers form the garlic. Drizzle the garlic with 2 tablespoons of the olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and wrap tightly in aluminum foil. Roast until the garlic is very soft, about 40 minutes. Remove from the oven and, once cool enough to handle, separate the cloves and squeeze half of them from their skins into a small bowl. Set aside the remaining unpeeled cloves. Add the anchovy fillets to the squeezed garlic and gently mash together. Set aside.

3. Bring 4 quarts of water to a boil and add 2 tablespoons of salt. Set up an ice bath nearby. Blanch the broccoli rabe in the boiling water for 3 minutes, then remove with a slotted spoon and immediately refresh in the ice bath. Once cooled, drain and squeeze dry in a clean kitchen towel. Roughly chop the broccoli rabe and set aside.

4. In a 12 to 14 inch saute pan, heat the remaining 1/4 cup of olive oil over high heat and stir in the garlic and anchovy mixture. Cook over high heat and stir in the garlic and anchovy mixture. Cook over high heat for 2 minutes, then add the broccoli rabe, remaining cloves of roasted garlic, and red pepper flakes. Saute over high heat until the broccoli rabe starts to brown at the edges. Season with salt and pepper and serve.

Nibby whole-wheat sablés
Adapted from Pure Dessert by Alice Medrich

Servings: Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies

1 cup (4.5 ounces) flour
Scant 1 cup (4 ounces) whole wheat flour
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup cacao nibs

1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and whole wheat flour and set aside.

2. In another medium bowl, using the back of a large spoon or with an electric mixer, beat the butter with the sugar, salt and vanilla until smooth and creamy but not fluffy, about 1 minute. Add the cacao nibs and mix to incorporate. Add the flour and mix just until incorporated. Scrape the dough into a mass and, if necessary, knead with your hands a bit, just until smooth.

3. Form the dough into a 12-by-2-inch log. Wrap the log tightly in plastic wrap; refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.

4. Position the oven racks in the upper and lower third of the oven and heat the oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

5. Using a sharp knife, cut the cold dough log into one-fourth-inch slices. Place the cookies at least 1 1/2 inches apart on the baking sheets. Bake until the cookies are light golden brown at the edges, 12 to 16 minutes, rotating the baking sheets from top to bottom and front to back halfway through baking. Allow the cookies to rest on the sheets about 1 minute to firm up, then transfer them to a rack using a metal spatula. Let them cool completely. Store the cookies in an airtight container.

Black Sesame Panna Cotta
From Dessert First but with a few tweaks from me
Makes 2 servings

1 teaspoons powdered gelatin
3/4 cup heavy cream
3/4 cups whole milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt
1 1/2 tablespoons black sesame seeds

1. Grind black sesame seeds in mortar and pestle.

2. Fill a small bowl with about 6 teaspoons of cold water. Sprinkle the gelatin over the water and let it turn into a gummy paste.

3. Combine the cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a medium saucepan and bring just to a simmer on the stove over medium heat. Do not let it come to a boil; it should be steaming hot and just starting to bubble.

4. Remove from heat and stir in the gelatin, stirring until it dissolves fully.

5. Stir in the ground sesame seeds. Let the mixture cool to room temperature.

6. Pour the mixture into individual glass dishes or ramekins. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

7. When you are ready to serve the panna cotta, dip the dishes briefly in hot water to loosen the panna cotta and invert onto a plate.

Choices

A representation of my cinematic maturity

I have four Netflix at my house:

Stalker
This science fiction milestone from directory Andrei Tarkovsky takes you into the SZone, a mysterious guarded realm containng a mystical room in which occupants' secret dreams come true. Stalker, a man able to lead others to this holy grail, escorts a writer and a scientist through this foreboding territory and confronts several unexpected challenges along the way. Bassed on the Russian sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic.
Rated NR 2 hrs. 43 min. 1979

Baise Moi
Please note that this film contains explicit sex scene and scenes of intense graphic violence, which some viewers may find shocking and disturbing. This film is not recommended for viewers under the age of 18. Manu, a hardened young waif is violently raped by a group of savage young thugs. Nadine, a tough-skinned prostitute, sells her body but refuses to give up her soul to the world's oldest profession. Sex plays a pivotal and often destructive role in both their lives. Angry at the world, they embark on a twisted rage-filled road trip. Their bloodlust leaves a trail of dead bodies and mischief behind them. They become deadly harbingers of death and destruction. Anyone who has the misfortune of crossing their path, is suddenly a potential victim.
Rated UR 1 hr. 17 min. 2000

L'Age D'Or
Iconoclastic direction Luis Bunuel trumpets his trademark critiques of relgion and bourgeoisie society ini this surrealistic, 1930 film -- which retains the power to shock its audience. As a nameless man and woman (portrayed by Gaston Modot and Lya Lys, respectively) attempt to consummate their sexual desire, the forces of righteousness continually thwart their passion. Artist Salvador Dali penned the provocative script.
Rated NR 1 hr. 1930

My Name Is Nobody
Spaghetti Western regular Terence Hill stars as Nobody, a man who's been chosen to take out established bandit Jack Beauregard (Henry Fonda) but who strikes up a friendship with the seasoned outlaw instead. After Beauregard decides to retire, his new buddy Nobody suggest that he go down in one last blaze of glory, and does his best to have him face off against the dodgy Wild Bunch. Will the aging gunfighter change his mind?
Rated PG 1 hr. 51 min. 1974

With these illustrious choices, what do we decide to watch?

A VHS bootleg of Next Friday.

I really need to have less ambitious movies in my queue and have at least one or two retard movies available at all times (ps I usually only get 3 movies at a time but due to some glitch they sent me 4.)

I guess it's time for Soul Plane and Spies Like Us to make their way to the top of my Queue.

The Boycott Continues

This is the only thing I did for fashion week.

DSCN6098

Jenny did an amazing job getting everything together for Built By Wendy. But I was more interested in taking pictures of my friends (they have professionals to take pics of the runway shows anyway, why waste my battery?)

Every year I give fashion week one night of my life. Ever since I got sober the whole thing is overwhelming, too many people, too many parties, too much networking. I just want to curl up in a little ball and hide for the entire week. I should be out there flexing my job muscles. Oh well. Just not my thing.

DSCN6105

We went to Odyn Vovk after BBW and I didn't take any pictures but apparently there was nearly an epic male model brawl and also we made eye contact with Jake on the runway and thank god dude was wearing a kangaroo leather surgical mask so no one could see him laughing.

30[1]

Afterwards we went to the Parlor Showroom opening party which was jam-packed. I stuffed my face with cannoli and then got quickly overwhelmed.

DSCN6107

I don't do well with crowds so this picture of Chuck triple-fisting free beer is all I got. Afterwards Sean and I went to an industrial/synth show at Glasslands. Back to my safe place!

Auctions I have lost/couldn't afford on Ebay (updated/bumped)

I thought Ebay was dead until I found the store Claire Incorruptible. Everything is super pricey but it's amazing nonetheless. I want to go to Australia and strangle this woman for her collection. The blog on the website is full of insanely covet-worthy goods. The first dress is was brought me to the store.

Despite the emaciated model, this is my size...and vintage Moschino

Authentic

Chanel neckpiece

Moschino

You know what...I thought this would be longer but I realized there is very little great vintage out there right now. Maybe my unconscious has ruined my search skills because I'm broke. But I looked and looked and there were only three things I wanted that I didn't get and that onesie was gonna be too short-waisted for me anyway. And I would also like to take this moment to bemoan the lack of vintage Rykiel and Ricci. Where did it all go?

ALSO, I am sorry but I am fucking sick of all this fake model shit on Ebay. Sorry looking girls (not accusing the ones I took pics of here) in awkward Top Model 101 poses in front of ratty looking radiators with NYC circa 2000 electroclash haircuts with crappy 90s rompers pinned to their boney shoulders (I love a good romper but just because you put "Kelly Bundy" in the description don't make it so.)

ANYWAY none of that matters because this is actually something I won!...

I snagged it at a reasonable "Buy It Now" price from Feathers Boutique a genius store run by my friends Emily and Masha down in Austin (a must to for all you SXSW nerds.) It's also where I scored my perfect New Years dress...vintage Patricia Field anyone?

Whoa, red lipstick makes me teeth look way yellow!

Shout out to Diane get your site up and get those pics printed girl!

I think I need an Intervention for posting this

Here, in full, is the greatest episode of Intervention I have ever seen. It even beats the crazy duster huffer.

High Life

Nothing is more amusing than a high child...in a non-abusive way at least. Thank you dad for exploiting your son!
